With the Z801, the traditional Nuremberg-based manufacturer Zündapp also offers an e-mountain bike. This particularly affordable 27.5-inch pedelec boasts a solid, practical set of features and is aimed at all riders who want to enjoy motor assistance without spending several thousand euros. The Zündapp Z801 is equipped with a rear hub motor that delivers 250 watts of power, providing decent acceleration up to 25 km/h. It is powered by a 418 Wh battery integrated into the frame, which also features a USB port, providing a range of approximately 30–125 km, depending on load, riding style, and environmental conditions. Since factors such as overall weight, selected assistance level, terrain, and weather conditions like headwinds all have an impact, providing an exact range estimate for e-bike batteries is virtually impossible. Our figures should therefore be considered a guideline. The drive unit is controlled via the clear King-Meter LCD display, located directly next to the left grip. Its three buttons can be operated without taking your hand off the handlebars. The simple design makes the bike intuitive to use. The e-bike also features a 21-speed chain drive. This allows you to make good progress even if you want to ride without motor assistance. It is equipped with a Shimano Tourney derailleur, a Prowheel crankset, and a KMC X8 chain. Gears are conveniently selected using a Shimano Tourney shifter. The e-bike is equipped with mechanical disc brakes, which, compared to rim brakes, have the advantage of not being affected by dirt and moisture. Therefore, they are primarily used on mountain bikes, which are often ridden off-road. The Z801 is fitted with CST tires on aluminum double-wall rims, which, with a width of 1.95 inches and a grippy tread pattern, offer good traction on all surfaces. The 27.5-inch or 650B wheel size is increasingly establishing itself as an intermediate size, combining the advantages of 26-inch and 29-inch wheels. The result is smooth-running bikes with good rolling characteristics that are significantly more agile than the larger 29ers. The lightweight aluminum frame provides excellent torsional stiffness. Aluminum is a robust material with a good price-performance ratio, and even in the age of carbon frames, it remains a very popular material for bicycle frame construction. The slightly angled top tube reduces the standover height, making it easier for shorter riders to mount and dismount. Hardtail frames without suspension offer the advantage of more direct power transfer, allowing for quick and easy acceleration. The suspension fork provides the necessary riding comfort by absorbing shocks from the ground and protecting your joints. With a frame size of 48 cm, we recommend this bike for riders between 170 and 190 cm tall. The bicycle is suitable for a maximum permissible weight of 120 kg and weighs 22.7 kg itself. To ensure you can get riding right away without lengthy assembly, the e-bike is delivered 98% pre-assembled. Please note: This bicycle is not equipped with lights and therefore does not comply with German road traffic regulations (StVZO). It is recommended to carry out a corresponding retrofit.
